Best Week Ever! Tenerife, Day 2

Day two in Tenerife was spent hiking.  We started out in the area of Los Gigantes and hired a taxi to take us up a very windy road to the city of Masca.  This city used to be very remote, and at such an elevation that the only way to reach it was by donkey.
But not anymore.  Now crazy taxi car drivers go there.
Once we got to Masca, we covered ourselves in sun screen and began hiking... down.
Yep, we started this hike at the top of the mountain, and hiked 5 miles down.  It took us about 2 hours or so; it was very rocky, and it was hard to enjoy the view because we were constantly looking at where we were placing our feet.  So we stopped a lot to check out the view.

Making sure we know where we are.  Really, there was no way to get lost.

The start of our hike down.

Cute little bridge.
Very bright sun.

Random  mountain goats.

And a random pretty little flower bush.

These rock formations and patterns were amazing.  In some places, it looked as if the whole mountain had been tipped on it's side, and in others it looked like the mountain was melting.

Good thing Pete doesn't make this face all the time.

Some of us chose to follow the path...

... and some of us didn't.

The pose.
You'll see this again.

More randomness.

Here's the melting rocks.

Oh look!  It's the pose!

Look!  There it is again!

Pete makes this face more often than the previous one...

"Let's make sure we understand this.  I mean, it is in Spanish."
I love Jody.

Wait, are we in Southern Utah?
Nope.  Still in Spain.

Once we got close to the bottom of the trail, we could hear the ocean.  And then all of a sudden...
There it was.  Amazing.

Now we're looking up at the hike.

Word, yo.

We sat out on this little pier for a few minutes and waited for our ride back the car, which was parked somewhere else on the island.

We hopped on a boat and off we went.

After dinner, we wandered over to a very fancy hotel, and walked through their lobby, hoping to get to the beach.  Here's where we ended up.

So we took a few pictures like we were fancy guests.

Well, maybe not so fancy.

We did find a beach- a black sand beach.  Probably the most amazing sand I have ever seen.
Ever.
It was so fine and smooth.
And black.

The boys contemplated getting in for a while.

Jody and Jared wandered over to the edge of the beach.
We weren't supposed to go there.
Oops.

Black sand.

One of my favorite pictures.

Isn't this amazing?

And here we are in true form:

I didn't catch any air like the others.  I just documented it.
And then got in the cold water.

And they're off!
They just took their shirts off and ran-
like excited little boys.

This picture was cool in my head.  It still needs work.

We did a little pilates on the beach, too.

That hike looks A-MAZ-ING! What a great trip. I love reading your posts and looking at your pictures. The black sand is so cool! I think you should keep up with the hair style. It's so fun!

First of all, your pictures are amazing! They look like they could be sold as postcards or even something better than postcards. Secondly, I want to go back!--with you and Pete and Jared. Vamonos! (I can't speak or spell Spanish.)
